Gnome Hat

For this hat, I used Patons Astra 100% acrylic in ‘Baby Pink’. It’s super soft and I have no clue where I got this yarn from. I did make some changes from the original pattern, but the general idea and construction is the same. I didn’t really understand the part regarding making the strap so I just winged it until it looked about right.

Current projects list (update!)

In progress…
Gryffindor House Scarf (knit)
Been working on it for year plus, all the knitting is done! Made in 100% acrylic (Red Heart Super Saver and Bernat Satin) and I just need to tuck in all the ends, since I’m incredibly lazy and dislike tucking in ends on things. Intended recipient: myself (again).

Stolen Pi Stole (crochet)
Worked on it on and off since August, still on-going though. I still have 10 more balls of yarn left for this (using the very much retired Moda Dea Dream yarn in Leaf Green), so I still have approximately 10 more numbers to add to my Stolen Pi Stole (original pattern). Intended recipient: myself.

In planning…
Goomba Amigurumi (crochet)
Not started (yet!), but I do have all the colours I need for it. Intended recipient: unmentioned.

Garter Stitch Elongated Stitch Scarf (knit)
Not started yet, light cream in colour (delicious!), 6 balls in total to work into the scarf. Intended recipient: unknown (but not myself, too many scarves for my neck).

Blythe-sized Cardigan (knit)
Not started yet, still need to find the colour of sock yarn that I’d like for the project (likely to be self-striping yarn). Intended recipients: the dolls.

Valentine Slouch Hat (crochet)
Not started yet, planning to be a dark pink. Unsure of when I’ll get a chance to make this one. Intended recipient: unknown.

Super Mario Piranha Plant Scarf (crochet)
Not started yet, still need to buy the yarn for it, but it should be a fairly quick project, looking at the pattern. Intended recipient: unmentioned.

Breast Cancer Awareness

October, for those who are not aware, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most people do know someone who’s life has been touched by cancer. And for those aren’t aware, I’m kind infatuated with Blythe dolls. So, after seeing a fellow Blythe enthusiast’s photo of a knitted Breast Cancer Awareness hat on a Blythe doll on Flickr, I asked if I could do something like it in crochet (since my knitting skills aren’t up to snuff), so many thanks to battywing on Flickr for the inspiration!

Materials: 100% acrylic yarn in light and dark pink.

A dozen cupcakes

This week (I started on Sunday, August 30th and finished Thursday, September 3rd) I crocheted a dozen cupcakes from BitterSweet’s Quick Cupcakes pattern. Today was my last day at work for the summer so I decided to make parting gifts. Now, my sister Jenny issued me a challenge: to make each cupcake unique in colour combination. I had to only use what we had in our house (thank goodness for stockpiling during yarn sales at the crafts store…), although buying additional stuffing was permitted (… how on earth can you have cupcakes without the stuffing?).

This is definitely a pattern that I will consider using again, the name certainly doesn’t lie as it works up fast (I worked on them between 1-2 hours per day from Sunday to Thursday and got a dozen done).

All my coworkers loved them and some even asked if I bought them! They also thought it’d take hours for each one and were all very pleased with how cute they were. Granted, most of them commented on how they now have a super-cute stress ball at their desk (meep!) but overall, they all loved their new cupcakes, which I was really happy about.

Here is what I had done by early Thursday evening:

Birthday bear hat

The Birthday bear hat was made for my friend’s birthday present. It’s crocheted in brown acrylic yarn for ease of washing (I avoid using 100% natural fibre yarns for gifts, especially since I know most people will toss things into the washing machines and I want to avoid things shrinking down several sizes). I made up the pattern myself. The ears are double layered to help with keeping their shape. They look a little wonky in the photos (the ear on the right looks a little lopsided). This is because my model’s head is not the same shape as a human head, so it doesn’t fill out the hat perfectly – but they’re both non-wonky and stay perfectly (… when on a person’s head).
